Fred it Right (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides an AI-powered waste classification platform for municipal residents. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and application (collectively, the “Service”).

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from your Google account.
  • Address information: Your residential address, which you provide voluntarily to receive personalized pickup schedules.
  • Contact form submissions: Name, email, organization, city, and message content submitted through our demo request or contact forms.
  • Email subscription: Your email address when you subscribe to updates.
  • Feedback: Thumbs up/down responses and optional correction data you submit after a classification.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, timestamps, and interaction patterns.
  • Device information: Browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution.
  • Location data: Approximate location derived from your IP address or, with your explicit consent, precise GPS coordinates for depot distance calculations.
  • Images: Photos you submit for waste classification are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers after classification is complete.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide accurate, location-specific waste disposal guidance
  • Display personalized pickup schedules based on your address
  • Calculate distances to the nearest recycling depots
  • Improve classification accuracy through aggregated feedback analysis
  • Respond to your inquiries and demo requests
  • Send updates if you have subscribed (you may unsubscribe at any time)
  • Generate aggregated, anonymized insights for partner municipalities
  • Maintain and improve the Service

4. AI Processing

Our Service uses third-party AI models (via OpenAI’s API) to classify waste items. When you submit a text query or image:

  • Your input is sent to OpenAI for processing and is subject to OpenAI’s Privacy Policy.
  • OpenAI does not use data submitted through their API to train their models.
  • We do not store images after classification. Text queries may be logged temporarily for debugging and are purged within 30 days.

5. Data Storage and Security

We use Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore (Google Cloud Platform) to securely store account and preference data. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We implement industry-standard security measures including access controls, regular security reviews, and secure coding practices.

While we take reasonable precautions, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: Google (Firebase, Cloud), OpenAI (AI processing), and hosting providers that help us operate the Service.
  • Municipal partners: Aggregated, anonymized usage data and contamination insights. No personally identifiable information is shared with municipalities.
  • Legal requirements: When required by law, regulation, or legal process.

7. Your Rights

Under Canadian privacy legislation (PIPEDA), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Withdraw consent for data processing
  • Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies for authentication and user preferences (such as language selection). We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not function properly.

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
